Our sass-a-frass door queen, Patty Templeton, is leaving us!
After serving us for three years as the best door girl in the world, Patty's heading off to greener Japanese pastures and breaking up with us, since a once-a-month commute from Osaka would be a bitch. In honor of her, the next RUI - from 7-10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2 in the back room of Sheffield's (3258 N. Sheffield Ave.) - is RUI: Patty Templeton. As usual, there's a $3 cover charge. It's an RUI like never before, and it's sure to be a good one!
You'll hear original readings by our featured guest Brian Costello, author of "The Enchanters vs. Sprawlburg Springs", along with "Ghost Factory" magazine editor David Peak and contributor Andrew Reilly, Sheffield's co-owner and rockin' writer Ric Hess, novelist Marc Paoletti (touting his new book, "Scorch") and of course, Patty Templeton. There'll even be a Patty tribute by writer Frank Stascik.
Instead of our usual reading of snippets by published well-known authors that revolve around a theme, this month, all the guests will read short scenes written by Patty! The trivia questions each guest dreams up might be about the scene itself, people named Patty, Japan, fabulous door queens...or whatever they can think of. As usual, giveaways follow the trivia rounds.
Be there! You could win stuff, like books.
Can't make it this time? Catch us on the first Wednesday of every month. Also, check out our What Is RUI? page for a video clip from RUI: Risk, back in August of 2007.
If so, submit your original work at the next RUI. If your piece is selected, you'll read this same original work at a future RUI, along with published work and trivia questions (both of your choice) related to the theme of that month.
