Julia is a freelance writer whose fiction and non-fiction have recently appeared in and on Fresh Yarn, The Parlor Podcasts, Criminal Class Review: Volume 3, Cubbie Blues: 100 Years of Waiting till Next Year, Sin: A Deadly Anthology, Metromix, RedEye, Time Out Chicago and other publications. She's also a co-founder of and co-host at Nerds at Heart.
In addition to RUI, she's also been a featured reader this past year at The 2nd Story Festival, Victory Gardens Theater's "Fresh Squeezed" series, Orange Alert, 2nd City/3rd Person and Literary Gangs of Chicago, and she co-curated the Golden Gloves edition of the Windy City Story Slam.
Julia's a fiction writing instructor at Columbia College Chicago and has been the recipient of a Follett Fellowship, two Schultz-Shiflett Scholarship Awards, a Getz Alternate Award and a first-place prize in the Columbia University (New York) Scholastic Press Association Awards. Her story "The Year of the Hawk" is a 2010 Pushcart Prize nominee.
